Refugee, Immigrant, People of Color Power-Building, Leadership & Education (RIPPLE) Program

Unite Oregon Action is excited to announce RIPPLE (Refugee, Immigrant, People of Color Power-Building, Leadership & Education), a new leadership series in February 2022 designed to build power for emerging IR-BIPOC leaders through political education, advocacy, and organizing skills delivered in a culturally responsive BIPOC-created curriculum. While people of color make up close to 25% of Oregon’s population, only 10% of Oregon’s State Senators and 15% of representatives are Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC). With the changing administration, now is the time to build power for immigrants, refugees, and Black, Indigenous, People of Color (IR-BIPOC) to shape the policies that affect them and create a just and more equitable Oregon.

Program

The RIPPLE program will train IR-BIPOC leaders through a 5-week intensive series. The full program is optional and each course is limited to 30 participants. Program graduates will receive a certificate recognizing the knowledge and skills developed through each course they take. The program will end with a celebration and job fair where graduates can network with political organizations, community-based organizations, campaigns and be connected to job opportunities.

Week 1: Levels of Government (Feb. 1-5)

Week 2: Grassroots to Policy (Feb. 8-12)
