Pan-Immigrant Leadership and Organizing Training (PILOT)- APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!
Unite Oregon (UO) is proud to announce the 2020-2021 East Portland Pan-Immigrant Leadership and Organizing Training (E-PILOT) program! 20-25 emerging leaders from immigrant and refugee communities in East Portland will enhance their skills, analysis, and organizing ability in this structured leadership development program built on a popular education model. This year, training components will be centered around building economic prosperity and long-lasting power in our communities. Graduates of this program will have the skills to do fieldwork and the empowerment to develop grassroots campaigns.
PILOT Program Approach:
The PILOT Program addresses the challenges faced by emerging immigrant and refugee leaders and groups through leadership and skill building convenings. Over a period of 8 months, the program:
Supports individual leaders from various immigrant and refugee communities to build a shared analysis for organizing;
Strengthens the capacity of immigrants and refugees to build power for their communities through in-depth skill building, leadership development and mentoring;
Develops a long-term multi-ethnic coalition of immigrant and refugee leaders, who can work together on local and statewide issue campaigns.
Program Elements
Training and workshops: Participants will virtually convene for a series of weekend workshops from October 2020-June 2021. During this time, they will participate in curricula that will help them understand the importance of community-based organizing and leadership and that will focus on economic and community prosperity within Immigrant and Refugee communities in East Portland. We have identified workshop trainers who work at local, regional and national institutions, who have extensive expertise and are among the best in their field. Additional virtual project gatherings will be held throughout the year.
Field Training for Participants: During this program, participants are empowered to put their training into practice by learning how to organize, empower their communities, engage in campaigns and by working on an economic and community prosperity focused project, which they will then evaluate.
E-PILOT 2020-2021 Dates:
October 17th-18th (Weekend) Virtual
January 23rd-24th (Weekend) Virtual
March 27th-28th (Weekend) Virtual until further notice
June 12th Final Meeting and Graduation (Saturday) Virtual until further notice
PILOT participant qualifications:
Must have the direct experience as an immigrant, refugee, or asylee or as the child of an immigrant, refugee, or asylee
Must be able to participate in ALL virtual E-PILOT convenings
Must be willing to learn in a safe space where we respect and honor the views and opinions of people from diverse backgrounds
Must have a passion for social change and serving the community
English is not a requirement, and interpretation can/will be provided
All program costs are covered:
The PILOT Program will be free-of-charge for participants*. Unite Oregon provides this $6,000 scholarship as an investment to refugee/immigrant leaders. Therefore, we require all participants to commit fully to the eight month long program and sign a Personal Agreement with Unite Oregon. No Exceptions!

Join Beaverton Organizing and Leadership Development (BOLD) Program!
In partnership with the City of Beaverton, Unite Oregon provides an annual leadership development program for emerging immigrant, refugee, and people of color. The Beaverton Organizing and Leadership Development (BOLD) Program centers around three goals: growing new leaders, building cross-cultural relationships, and laying the groundwork for civic engagement.
BOLD is a FREE leadership and civic engagement program for immigrants, refugees and people of color in Beaverton.
The program designed for participants to:
Learn concrete leadership, community organizing, and advocacy skills
Understand local government and how to get involved
Build cross-cultural relationships with people from around the world
Help make Beaverton a thriving, multicultural city that is inclusive to everyone!
To qualify, you must:
1. Live within Beaverton city limits
2. Attend all trainings
English is not a requirement, interpretation can/will be provided along with childcare expenses.

Metro Partners in Nature
Unite Oregon partners with Metro to augment Unite Oregon’s ongoing leadership development work by adding an experiential environmental component to two leadership development cohorts well as educational curriculum on land use, environmental preservation, wildlife habitat, watershed health, and hot-button environmental public policy decisions.
